Most states require drivers to have auto liability insurance before they can legally drive a car. All states have laws that set the minimum amounts of insurance or other financial security drivers have to pay for the harm caused by their negligence behind the wheel if an accident occurs. Know what your state requires before settling on an auto insurance policy. Most auto policies are for six months to a year. In a standard Auto Insurance policy, you can be provided some of the following coverages:

  • Collision

This coverage pays for damage to the policyholder’s car resulting from a collision with another car, object or as a result of flipping over. Collision coverage does not pay attention to who is at fault in the case of an accident, but it may act differently if you are not at fault.

  • Liability

If someone sues for an accident, liability coverage will protect against any legal fees that you may face. The legal fees include court and attorney costs.

  • Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist

Uninsures/Underinsured motorist coverage protects you from drivers who can't pay for damages and pays for your injuries and damaged property if you're hit by a driver with little or no insurance.
